THE STUSSY ZOOMER ARRIVES IN LONDON - By Dan Lewis

This month sees the arrival of the Stussy Zoomer, the result of a special collaborative project between Stussy UK, Zoomerzine, Ben Wilson and Studio Oscar.

After hitting the UK last year, the Honda Zoomer has become one of the most sought-after scooters on the road. Its unique styling and stripped down design has made it a huge success in Japan and the US. An exclusive to London’s Stussy store, the extremely limited run of ten bikes will each retail at £2400.

No stranger to the Zoomer, designer Ben Wilson was quick to snap up one of the limited run on the scooter’s first arrival to our shores. He set about creating what he calls the ‘ultimate urban trawler,’ attaching racks and modifying the headlights to utilise the bike’s frame and storage potential.

The key inspiration for the Stussy Zoomer design comes from classic ‘Kustom’ culture, drawing influence from the hot rod, low rider, skate and BMX scenes - whilst acknowledging the brand’s surf shop origins.

The finished bikes are individually numbered and hand painted, each coming with laser-etched wood panelling provided by Studio Oscar. The ten owners will also be provided with a special edition Stussy skateboard and Alpha MA -1 jacket with embroidered Honda Zoomer patch.

Created by N – Project, a Japanese design collective, the scooters were made in as minimal a style as possible, to encourage owners to customise their bikes. In doing so, the Zoomer has blurred the boundaries between designer and consumer and managed to obtain a charisma and appeal lacking from many of today’s two wheeled alternatives.
