DJ Hell’s acclaimed 'International Deejay
Gigolo' record label marks its 10-year anniversary
this June with a special CD release and vinyl artwork
exhibition at Art Vinyl in London. International
Deejay Gigolo was one of the first dance labels
to introduce electro to the mainstream and was the
first to sign artists such as Tiga, Fischerspooner,
Miss Kitten and Zombie Nation. East End gallery/shop,
Art Vinyl will be hosting a two-week exhibition
from June 30, to celebrate the anniversary, which
features the best of the label’s 50 record
covers over the last decade. |
|
| Expect
to see lots of innovative designs by U.S and European
artists. Miami born photographer, Roe Ethridge’s
iconic imagery for NYC’s digital pop punk
art rock duo, Fishcherspooner will be one of the
main highlights. Bernard Benant (prolific photographer
of big industry names including Neneh Cherry and
Bob Sinclar to name a few) along with photographer,
Christoph Klensindorf and designer, Laurent Fetis’
art collaboration for Hell’s third album release
‘NY Muscle’ is one to look out for.
The rest of the exhibition will include Abuse Industries’
artwork for Zombie Nation’s ‘Leichenschmaus’,
plus NYC collective, Mogollon’s work for the
newest Gigolo special commemorative release ‘International
Deejay Gigolo CD Ten’. The compilation album
(out June 15) features 11 brand new Gigolos, who
have been hand picked by DJ Hell. |
|
There
have been over 200 International Deejay Gigolo
record releases to date and the label has marked
every 50th release with a special limited edition
item. Each item will be exhibited at Art Vinyl
including the special knickers designed by Agent
Provocateur owner Joe Corre, which feature an
International Deejay Gigolo logo on the front,
and the limited edition branded toilet paper,
which signified the labels ethos of ‘cleaning
the dirt’ (out of rubbish music). Exhibition
hosts, Art Vinyl reinforce the relationship between
graphic art and music through the use of vinyl
records. The gallery/shop opened in April 2006
in east London and has played host to exhibitions
by some of the UK’s most acclaimed record
labels and bands including Hot Chip, Ace Records
and dance labels Hospital & Finger Lickin.
The
exhibition runs for two weeks from June 30 to
July 13.
Opening hours are: 11am to 8pm and entry is free.
